Baking Roulette presents bakers with randomly combined recipes to encourage them to trust the process will produce serendipitous outcomes. Bakers flip between categories of desserts (flavor, method, and category) to discover their next recipe without experiencing decision fatigue. Embracing this unpredictability in the kitchen allows bakers to focus on the process rather than the outcome, and inspires an attitude of acceptance and adaptability in the broader scope of life.

I designed a website for bakers to find random recipes by pressing down the lit-up “shuffle” button. They are given three random cards with which to make a recipe. The back of each card has random printed instructions related to the element on the front of the card. The print function allows them to print the three random cards they’ve landed on to assemble a recipe. Bakers are encouraged to share their recipe to a cumulative gallery including pickle cupcakes and carrot ice cream.

After creating a website designed to help bakers choose their next recipe, I printed each illustrated card and assembled them into a booklet. Bakers can “shuffle” through the booklet by flipping through the cards and landing on a serendipitous recipe.
