A project inspired by my great grandmother’s Italian heritage. She immigrated from Sicily to New York City just before the Great Depression. My grandmother was mocked by city dwellers and even fellow Italians for the Sicilian dialect she spoke. The map references my great grandmother's journey from Sicily to New York City. There's a contrast between the beauty of the intricate patterns mimicking Italian pottery and the hustle and bustle of the city. The newspaper references the social climate of the time.
